Zithromax (Z-Pak) linked to liver failure and other serious complications

South Korea halts sales of Zithromax for at least 3 months

South Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety has suspended the sale of Pfizer’s antibiotic Zithromax, commonly known as Z-Pak, for at least three months. The health agency issued the suspension due to inaccurate dosage instructions, which could lead to severe side effects.

Zithromax is a potent antibiotic that is prescribed for mild to moderate infections. Patients have complained of serious Z-Pak side effects, including jaundice, abdominal pain and potentially fatal liver failure.

Zithromax has also been linked to Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS), particularly in younger patients. SJS is an extremely severe rash that affects the mucous membranes and can lead to complete loss of skin, blindness, liver damage and death.
